Gog Magog Canteen

We are very proud of our new café, the Canteen. It opened in June 2011 and has been going strong ever since. We love the way it’s bright and full of sunshine in the summer, and snug and cosy in the winter. If you’re feeling social you can gather round our long oak table and chat over the cookery books, or if you’re just in need of a quick pick-me-up then you can grab an espresso and lean up against our bar area with the papers.

Menu

Our Canteen menu has a little bit of something for everyone, whatever the time of day. So whether you pop in for a bacon sandwich and a coffee to get your day started, or a cup of tea and a slice of cake to cheer up your afternoon, the Canteen is the perfect spot.

You can also find sausage rolls, Scotch eggs and our classic bacon sarnie – served just the way you like it. And our cake selection is something to behold – we defy you not to be tempted by something.

About our food

Almost everything on our menu has a family connection. Mum of the farm, Lesley Bradford, has been making the sausage rolls since for as long as we can remember – made with our butchery’s three-herb sausage meat. She is also the clever lady behind our scones – we won’t divulge how many recipes she went through to find the final, perfect scone, but it’s a lot! Her next project is the cheese scone, so watch this space.

Dad of the farm, Colin Bradford, is the man who takes responsibility for making the renowned Scotch eggs. He rolls each one by hand and often conducts a taste test to make sure they live up to their legendary nametag.

Youngest brother Marcus’ chorizo and new potato stew has been a big hit recently. Many a customer has popped in to tell us just how much they enjoyed their bowl of steaming, slightly spicy stew.

In fact all this family cooking leaves us wondering what Charles has up his apron sleeve!

All our filled baguettes are made fresh each morning and our bacon sandwiches are made to order – with as much or as little sauce as you like.

Local mum, Louise Gillibrand of Oxbridge cakes, makes the large cakes you’ll find in our sweet counter. Jane Blackman of Jane’s Cupcakes in Steeple Bumpstead, makes us a range of tempting cupcakes.

Facilities

There is free car parking at Gog Magog Hills and there will always be a willing member of staff to help you take your heavy bags to the car. We also have customer toilets on site.

We know that lots of people like to walk their dogs before coming in for a bite to eat, so we have dog bowls out. All we ask is that dogs remain on a lead because our farm dogs, Rachel and Molly, can be a little bit territorial
