The Gog Magog Cheese Board

Cheese is rather important to us here at Gog Magog Hills but we understand that sometimes we have so much of the smelly stuff in our cabinet that it's hard to know where to start. So we've put together a seasonal cheese board of some of our favourites to help you on your cheesy way

  • Stichelton

This blue has a burnt sugar sweetness that will convert all those cheddar-devotees to go blue. It's made using an old-fashioned recipe that call for unpasteurised milk; this gives the cheese a longer, smoother taste. Try it instead of Stilton. Top tip: the rind of this mellow blue is the best bit so don't throw it away - tuck in!

  • Tunworth

A devilishly oozy cheese that shows that you don't have to travel to the continent to find a bloomin' good soft and creamy number. The gooey, cabbagey goodness develops with time so ask for a mature one for optimum goo. Serve just as you would a Camembert.

  • Montgomery's Cheddar

The king of all cheddars. This earthy cheese is the perfect all rounder for your cheese board. Add a dollop of chutney for cheddar perfection. Tip: take it out of the fridge for a good hour before serving to experience the full flavour.

  • Wigmore

It's hard to imagine anyone not loving this unctuous, buttery cheese. The staff at Gog magog Hills certainly do. It's an award-winning modern day cheese made with ewe's milk for a fresher flavour. Tip: don't fret if it develops a yellowy mould. This is a sign of it's developing greatness.

  • Coolea

This hard wax-wrapped cheese is based on a Gouda recipe but matured for longer. This gives it time to develop a sweet and nutty flavour. There is a tip of the tongue tang for adults, but this cheese is also a sure winner for the little ones. Plus it's a safe one for pregnant women.

  • Ragstone

A mousey, lemony goat's cheese that's strong but not farmy. Made by the experts at Neal's Yard it's one of the most popular cheeses in our cabinet. Tip: If you have a goat's cheese phobic in your party then drizzle honey over the cheese and watch them melt with new found love.
